The Kindergarten Readiness Act, a historic reform to kindergarten education, gives the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District an opportunity to ensure that more children each year are better prepared to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
The PYLUSD believes that school readiness is more than just reading, writing, and arithmetic. This legislation enables the PYLUSD to create a transitional kindergarten program (“Preppy K”) to support the development and achievement of the youngest learners.
Research has shown that students who enter kindergarten at age four have a higher likelihood of retention and learning delays in comparison to their older peers. While younger students may do well academically in kindergarten, they are often at a disadvantage in middle and high school in areas such as social maturity and athletics.
The PYLUSD is proud to address these concerns through the creation of a standards-based Preppy K program that is designed to meet both the academic and social-emotional needs of younger students.
Families interested in participating in the PYLUSD Preppy K program should download the application on this page and submit it to the school district’s Educational Services Office.
